Our Film & Food #10 presents "Elections", by Alice Riff. The film raises
awareness about social dynamics and the challenges of democracy in the
current time. Considering the recent events in Latin America, it will be
of great contribution for further discussions. Come share with us some
ideas and see what the new generation can teach us!

“It’s best to learn about the workings (and snags) of democracy by
practicing it. At a public high school in São Paulo, the elections for
the student council are coming up. Various teams compete for the best
ideas, the coolest campaign poster and the most votes. It’s vital not to
be carried away by populist actions and to put personal interest aside.
Just like in “big” politics, the candidates walk the line between honest
commitment and superficial show effects in election debates. But the
sudden appearance of the police at the school gates instantly makes it
clear how important it is that the students are able to speak with one

A project that intends to amplify the cinematic experience and to bring
the community together to explore their audiovisual senses, all while
enjoying a delicious vegan menu. We hope to inspire valuable discussions
in a cozy corner of Neukölln. Come by every 4th Sunday of the month!

Im Hinblick der aktuellen Geschehnisse in Lateinamerika möchten wir
unser Anliegen, ein Bewusstsein über die sozialen Dynamiken und
Herausforderungen der Demokratie in der gegenwärtigen Zeit zu schaffen,
bekräftigen. Alice Riffs Film "Elections" liefert dafür zahlreiche
Angriffspunkte. Kommt vorbei, tauscht mit uns Ideen aus und seht, was
die neue Generation uns lehren kann.

Portugiesisch mit englischen Untertiteln
“Wie die Demokratie funktioniert (und wo sie hakt), lernt man am besten,
indem man sie praktiziert. In einer öffentlichen Highschool in São Paulo
stehen die Wahlen zur Schülervertretung an. Verschiedene Teams
konkurrieren um die besten Ideen, das coolste Wahlplakat und die meisten
Stimmen. Es gilt, sich nicht zu populistischen Aktionen hinreißen zu
lassen und persönliche Interessen hintanzustellen. Genau wie in der
„großen“ Politik balancieren die Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten in ihren
Rededuellen zwischen ehrlichem Engagement und oberflächlichen
Showeffekten. Doch als plötzlich die Polizei vor den Schultoren steht,
wird augenblicklich deutlich, wie wichtig es ist, dass die Schülerschaft

:: Das Event Film & Food wurde von Zeegotoh e.V. in Zusammenarbeit mit
B-Lage ins Leben gerufen. Es zielt darauf ab, das Kinoerlebnis in einer
Gemeinschaft audiovisuell erfahrbar zu machen und die sensorische Ebene
des Films gezielt durch ein leckeres veganes Menü zu verstärken. Jeden
vierten Sonntag des Monats bieten wir euch im Herzen Neuköllns ein
einmaliges Erlebnis und hoffentlich auch viele wertvolle Diskussionen.
